All of Jan & Jul sun hats provide excellent protection with UPF 50+ rated fabrics with no added chemicals. Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) is the rating measure of sun protection for fabrics. It indicates how much of sun’s UV rays can penetrate through the fabric onto your skin. A UPF 50 fabric blocks 98 percent of the UVA and UVB rays and only allows two percent (1/50th) to pass through. According to Skin Cancer Foundation, a sun hat or sun protective clothing must have a UPF of 30 to qualify for their seal of recommendation to reduce your risk of exposure. A UPF of 30 to 49 offers very good protection, while UPF 50+ rates as excellent.
